Who's whispering in your ears?

Every month, for 2 hours, I meet up with 6 women, none of whom I have ever met IRL. 

Over the past 2 years, these calls have had an incredible influence on my emotional and financial wealth. 

Never in a million years would I have expected the incredible influence these six virtual friendships have on me. 

Of course, I know that meaningful relationships lead to happiness, but I am becoming hyper-ware of who I allow to whisper in my ears and how their beliefs are contributing to shaping my future. 

Here are a few beliefs I overheard this week:

• "If I left my big corporate salary to do what I love, I would never make as much."

• "M&A is slowing down, so I won't get hired in strategic communications."

• "A recruiter told me that after my entrepreneurial experience, I could never expect to be hired by a brand." 

Are those true? Says who? 

• I know women making 7 figures with noncorporate roles. 

• Slowing hiring does not mean no hiring. 

• Recruiters have a limited market view (25% at max) and entrepreneurs who thrive in-house are called intrapreneurs. 

What we take in through our eyes and ears is as important as what we ingest. 

Fear is like candy; it gives us a rush; just look at the news.

So it was super refreshing when my client asked me to create a workshop for her team around this Rumi quote:  

"Live life as if everything is rigged in your favor." 

Surrounding yourself with positive and encouraging voices makes a huge difference.

You wouldn't take financial advice from random people, not from your favorite aunt who knows nothing about your industry, let alone your cubicle co-worker who dooms and glooms for breakfast.

If you want to flourish professionally, you have two options: 

1- shutting down the noise entirely or 

2- getting pros who want to see you soar.

Who's whispering in your ears? 

Choose those voices wisely; they have direct repercussions on your revenue.
