Recently, I've been told:
"You are too conceptual" (my coach),
"You are relentless" (client),
"You are very fast" (client), and
"If I were a candidate, I would not want to mess with you" (another recruiter).
Different people.
Even though, if you ask my best friends, they will tell you I can be all the above at once :)
I used to camouflage myself to fit in.
Which only made my intensity and ineptitude for small talk even more apparent.
Yet, my shortcomings worked wonders for recruiting.
It's a fast-paced, subjective, and transactional business with companies who want best-in-class talent now.
And. recruiting worked wonders for me.
I've always been fascinated by talent that expresses itself through work. In the same way, my husband is in awe of Sinner's tennis skills. Forza Italia!
So, I do love assessing and qualifying executives' potential and mindset.
Yet, recruiting didn't allow me time to dive deeper into the nuances of high potential.
Plus, I was always surprised to meet some executives who were unaware of their unique strengths and others who could not convey these strengths in an appealing way to employers.
Coaching allowed me to flip the coin.
I now help candidates become pros at sharing their skills and winning job offers.
Little did I realize that it also helped me rebalance my relationship with work:
Recruiting and coaching formed a virtuous circle with each other.
On the one hand, companies allow me to be quick and picky;
On the other hand, I can also slow down and provide deep and lasting support for candidates.
In fact, when looking for a new job, many of clients believe they must fix their flaws to fit in to get hired.
No need!
Because nothing is more compelling and magnetic than a person who is unapologetically aware of their skills and shortcomings.
The truth is that some will get you in three words, and others won't, even if you share 3,000 words.
No amount of explaining will do.
Like me, you might not be everyone's taste.
But you can't make an omelet without breaking some eggs, as my mother would say.
Then, let me know what fillings you choose; I might be interested.
Like in recruiting, there is talent for every company, and your unique flavor is needed!
