I went skiing this weekend.
I love being in the mountains.
I get high on inspiration seeing high peaks. Big nature fills me with awe and sparks my imagination and inspiration.
What I love the most is how far my eye can reach.
And I believe it impacts how far and how big I can think and dream.
But on Monday, my eyes went back to staring at my screen 15 inches away and... I deflated like a bad soufflé.
So, I'm guessing the contrary must be true. Does focusing on screens shorten our vision and the size of our dreams?
Maybe.
"Dreams are extremely important. You can't do it unless you imagine it."
If George Lucas says it, I believe it.
Imagination needs space to stretch and ignite dreams.
And big dreams make us move mountains!
So, that Monday morning, when my coach asked me what I wanted to make happen this week.
Feeling less than motivated, I replied:
"I have to finish the talk I'm working on."
Coach: "Well, how do you want to think about it?"
Me: "That people are going to love it!"
Coach: "Ok, and how does that make you feel?"
Me: "That inspires me to show up!"
Coach: "And when you feel inspired, what do you do?"
Me: "I will clear my desk to write, turn off my phone for 90 minutes, and pour myself into writing. I'll give myself an additional 90 mn on Wednesday for research. And channel Jen Sincero's humor to make it light and fun."
We both agreed that with that kind of plan, the result can only be that "I am inspired to finalize this talk!"
When motivation is nowhere to be found for the task in front of our eyes, it helps us to go further and remind ourselves of the dream behind it.
And just like that, I was on fire typing away.
Let's keep our eyes on the horizon, not just the bottom line.
Cheers, Agate
